Vecchia Napoli the Trattoria and Pizzeria in Tower road Sliema close to Old College street is now five years old. On the one hand it seems like yesterday that the sign went up and the warm embers of the log burning oven could be seen glowing through the large glass window, on the other hand however it has become a regular for so many loyal customers, and its oven and kitchen have fed so many thousands that it seems as though it has been there for far longer.
A regular likened Vecchia Napoli’s success to a Vesuvius eruption. In less than a week staff had to cope with queues on the weekends and most summer nights. Recently a decision was taken to expand upwards to the floor directly above it and this new dining area was opened last week end. Of course the kitchen was enlarged too, to cope with the increase in custom. On busy nights three pizzara are busy at work by the wood burning oven, one of the reasons behind the excellent pizza and the place’s success. The additional 80 covers in a separate area now allow staff to accommodate private parties and meals and also accept bookings more freely.
Vecchia Napoli will now also be open for lunch daily as so far it has only opened on Saturdays, Sundays and feast days and diners can enjoy better views of the sea.
